Nicole Kidman speaks for UNIFEM
The name BirdlandPA brings to mind soaring thoughts of flight and freedom of movement. This was certainly true among early jazz musicians like Charlie Parker and Wes Montgomery as well as innovators in the fine arts like Picasso and Andy Warhol. Today's media renaissance artists have a whole new palette and set of tools to choose from. Digital painting through photoshop manipulation, computer animation, video and audio recording have revolutionized how we communicate with each other and our perceptions of the world.

We can't make this stuff up...
Hoping to have piqued your interest, we'd like to offer you a little history. Kenneth McCaleb, director & founder of BirdlandPA began working in the record business as an assistant to the late Herb Abramsen, co-founder of Atlantic Records. Several years were spent together recording artists such as Otis Blackwell (songwriter to Elvis), Bo Didley, Blue Oyster Cult, Blondie, John Lennon and many others.
In the not so distant past...
Ken has guest lectured at Pratt Institute, Seton Hall and taught Television, Photography, Desktop Publishing and Animation at Wagner College in Staten Island. When Ken was at Wagner, the film "School Of Rock" with Jack Black was being filmed. Many of Ken's students appeared in the last scene of the film.
Filmmaker Stephen Spielberg, appeared for the Holocaust Remembrance Day at the UN. Ken had the opportunity to direct a special tribute to many of the real survivors from Schindler's List and an interview (later in the day) with its legendary director.

Seen here with Yoko Ono, Kenneth directed Yoko's TV interview which was broadcast on World Autism Day, April 2nd. 2009. Yoko had donated a plexiglass cloud puzzle sculpture in which 50 signed pieces were being auctioned on Ebay. All money raised went to Autism research with hopes of finding a cure. When that cure is found, NY's Whitney Museum will buy back the auctioned pieces and permanently display the reunited puzzle.
The Nicole Kidman video, "No is No", was shot using a green screen. It's the same technique used by meteorologists. You can replace any background to enhance your message. This UNIFEM public service announcement (PSA) was shot film style (single camera) and distributed world-wide in both NTSC and PAL formats.
